KIRKBYMOORSIDE and District Camera Club has excelled in the Yorkshire Photographic Union’s Annual Exhibition.

A number of images taken by members were awarded trophies and prizes at the event which showcases the county's talents.

Members of the 71 camera clubs affiliated to the YPU, which are spread throughout the county, compete to get images accepted in the exhibition.

Seventeen members from the Kirkbymoorside club entered and 11 had images accepted.

The awards were presented by Leo Rich, the president of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. Club chairman Harry Kingman said: "It was great to see so many club members supporting the exhibition and to be the joint winner – with Ilkley CC – of the trophy for colour prints. Beating clubs from the large cities is very gratifying.

"It was pleasing to see that 11 members had images accepted and that four members had been awarded trophies and we collected ten certificates.

He added: "It was particularly pleasing to see our three junior members doing so well, with each having all their prints accepted, between them they received four certificates of merit and collected the trophies for the best print and best projected image by a young photographer. The YPU defines a young photographer as one less than 21 years old, Kelsey is just 16 and Holly and Rachael are 15."

The exhibition will be on show at the Bankfield Museum in Halifax until Saturday.
