THESE greyhounds and their owners came out across York to raise awareness of the urgent need to rehome the former racing dogs.

Some 65 greyhounds walked along the River Ouse for the Great British Greyhound Walk, the second highest turnout in the country, despite it being the first year the city was involved.

More than £1,500 was raised for greyhound charities, including £1,100 by Louise Dale, from Malton.

Organisers Jane Lund and Tina Abbot said they were “amazed and delighted to have such a good turnout”, and aim to beat the total next year.
