A RETIRED York vicar and her husband have now reached “God’s own county” in their sponsored walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

The Reverend Nancy Eckersley, 60, former vicar of Heslington, and her husband John, 68, got to the Humber Bridge landmark to complete more than 600 miles of their projected 1,280 mile trek.

The couple, who set off from the Cornish headland at the beginning of April in a bid to raise £45,000 for Christian Aid, were met on the bridge by people from Hessle Churches Together.

Nancy said their progress through Yorkshire would be somewhat slower than previously, as they were in the process of moving house and were also visiting Badger Hill and Archbishop Holgate schools in York area to update pupils on their adventures so far.

More information about their walk can be found on their website www.johneckersley.wordpress.com, which has a Just Giving section for anyone wanting to support the venture.
