Breast cancer patient Carmel Keary and her partner, Steve White, have raised £1,200 for the Breast Care Unit at York Hospital by hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc in Western Europe.
The tour is the ultimate long-distance wilderness hike around Mont Blanc, and makes its way through France, Italy and Switzerland.
The 120-mile route has an accumulated height gain of over 10,700 metres, and the route covers scenic valleys and high mountain passes, with steep ascents and descents.
Carmel said: “Raising money for York breast care nurses was a privilege for the tremendous and outstanding care and support I received from the team.
“The tour was a true scenic adventure of a life time and gave us the opportunity to meet fascinating people of all nationalities and age groups along the way. I would like to thank everyone who supported us and helped us to raise money for such a great cause.”
Lynn Moffatt, a breast care specialist nurse at the hospital said: “On behalf of the unit, I would like to thank Carmel and Steve for their fantastic achievement.”
