A CYCLIST who pedalled from York to Barcelona in memory of his brother has raised more than £1,000 for Brain Tumour Research.

Dave Cook, 64, from Strensall, cycled more than 1,000 miles to the Spanish coastal city with his friend, Ian Hagyard, from the Malton Road area of York, in the autumn.

He was prompted to undertake the journey after his brother Ken, of Stonegrave, near Helmsley, died last November, aged 68, five months after being diagnosed as terminally ill with a brain tumour.

He said £1,000 was more than he originally aimed for and he still hoped for a few more donations.

"We had a trouble-free ride with some challenging days with head winds and quite a lot of climbing but with some awesome scenery," he said.

"We suffered some fatigue after about five days but then recovered well and also as we got further down France it became more mountainous and we had some longer days, culminating in 103 hilly miles on our last day from L'Escala to Barcelona."
