A lawyer is urging others to follow in his footsteps after he and his colleagues were named the top fundraisers in an annual Yorkshire endurance feat.

Colin Byrne with friends Kevin Webb, Mark Golding and Christian Hall walked 100 km in under 30 hours across the Yorkshire Three Peaks in June to complete the Oxfam Trailtrekker challenge.

Their efforts raised just under £11,000 for the charity, more than any other of the four-man teams that took part in the event.

"It's wonderful, because it is so much money for so many people, particularly for children in war zones," said Mr Byrne.

"I would encourage anyone to put a team together and to do it, not just to raise money, but because it is a really exciting event to do, hard work, but exciting."

It was the second time Colin had attempted the challenge. Last year he had to abandon it after 80 km when he suffered a stress fracture in his leg. This year he finished it.

Next year's challenge will be on August 22 and August 23 on the same route and organisers are looking for long distance fundraisers to sign up for it.

Mr Byrne is currently training for his second Yorkshire Marathon. His leg healed in time for him to complete the inaugural one last year.
