HUNDREDS of supporters joined the York Cats Protection for its annual open day and helped to raise £1,918 and enough food to make 878 much needed meals for the cats in the adoption centre.

James Hodgkison, York’s Adoption Centre Manager, said: “Open days are a great way to encourage people to visit the centre and see for themselves how we support homeless cats in the community. Every year we’re overwhelmed by the generosity and support local residents and people from afar offer. The annual running cost of the centre is around £40,000, so donations really do make a difference and allow us to carry on our work to ensure a bright future for all the cats and kittens in our care.”

Every year the York adoption centre helps to find new homes for around 375 cats, and as a direct result of the open day, eight year old Angie, who has been under the care and support of the York centre for around four weeks, finally found a new home and was adopted by a local family this week.

Anyone can sign up to become a new member of the charity, which costs as little as £7 per year. For more details on how to become a member or how to make a donation to the York adoption centre visit www.york.cats.org.uk or call 01904 760356.
