RUNNERS from a city firm have raised thousands of pounds for charity.

Staff from the York branch of property consultancy Carter Jonas raised more than £1,100 when they took part in the Great North Run alongside colleagues from Leeds and Harrogate.

The team of six took on the challenge for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the British Heart Foundation to support ex-workmate Tom Aylott who underwent major heart surgery after doctors discovered a heart defect.

Claire Beatson, a negotiator with the York office, said: “The British Heart Foundation is a charity close to all of our hearts because of what Tom went through. It is also poignant for me as my dad had life-saving heart by-pass surgery earlier this year.

It was great to have Tom there cheering us on and to be able to do our bit for the charity. In fact we enjoyed it so much that we’re already in training for next year.”
