A GIRL fighting a rare and aggressive cancer is to write a book about it with her mother.
Gaby Alderson’s mother, Vicki, said the book will detail the terrible time after her daughter was diagnosed with MYCN-amplified stage four neuroblastoma last year.
Last month, doctors at Leeds General Infirmary said biopsies on Gaby’s bone marrow revealed only a small amount of neuroblastoma cells following chemotherapy.
Since being told she was nearing remission, Gaby, of South Otterington, near Northallerton, has lost weight and suffered panic attacks.
Her family have also been told 80 per cent of children who go into remission relapse within two years.
They are appealing for fundraisers to help finance treatment unavailable on the NHS.
Mrs Alderson, who is backing a drive for awareness of childhood cancer, said: “We have so much to say, this is worth writing about.
“This time last year I was standing at the door of the clinic at Leeds with a look of absolute disbelief and horror on my face.”
She said she couldn’t begin to imagine how Gaby was feeling.
