FUNDRAISERS in North and East Yorkshire are aiming to help a national charity raise £20m this year.

Macmillan Cancer Support is hosting the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on September 26, with 4,500 expected to take place around the county, and hoping to raise £473,000 towards the cause.

York fundraiser Simon Spencer, 35, has taken part in various fundraising events over the last four years, including a 550-mile solo bike ride from York to Edinburgh and back, raising over £2,000, and is taking on the coffee morning as his next fundraising project.

Simon’s father was recently diagnosed with melanoma.

Simon said: “I continue to support Macmillan because of how impressed I am with the amount of hard work our local team put in.

“My father really appreciates receiving support from his Macmillan nurse, and I have found the Macmillan helpline very informative with the unanswered questions I had about my father’s diagnosis. Every pound raised by those taking part in events like World’s Biggest Coffee Morning helps to fund these vital services.”

The official World’s Biggest Coffee Morning day is on September 26 but events can be held any time. To find out more go to macmillan.org.uk/coffee or phone 0845 6021246.
