FOUR brave firefighters from York have had their chests waxed for charity.

The volunteers, from Huntington fire station, raised money for St Leonard’s Hospice as part of the national Hair For Hospices campaign.

Their “ordeal” took place at the health and beauty salon at the Joseph Rowntree School in New Earswick under the supervision of the hair and beauty leader, Julie Atkinson.

Julie said: “‘We have supported St Leonard’s in the past, and we wanted to do something for Hair For Hospices and as we have links with the fire station, this seemed a good way to go about it.

“The lads from the fire station are all willing victims, and we hope to raise lots of money for a great cause.’

Sarah Atkinson, community Fundraiser at St Leonard’s Hospice, said: “It’s great that Julie has arranged for the firemen to undergo this ordeal – we’re very grateful to her and to the men for being such great supporters of the hospice’s work.”
