RESIDENTS in two North Yorkshire towns are being urged to donate their unwanted tools to a charity which will use them to help African communities.
North Yorkshire County Council is working with Tools For Self Reliance, which collects and refurbishes hand tools and sewing machines before sending them to Africa.
Tools can be donated at household waste recycling centres in Wetherby Road, Harrogate, and Dallamires Lane, Ripon. The project needs non-electrical hand tools which can be used by carpenters, blacksmiths, mechanics, builders, plumbers and seamstresses.
Ian Fielding, the council’s assistant director of waste and countryside, said: “North Yorkshire residents have already donated almost four tonnes of tools over the last few years, and we hope to increase the number of items being collected to provide people in Africa with the tools they need.”
