I HAVE written here several times over recent years re the dumping of all recycling materials, carefully sorted by residents, in a one-orificed lorry, more recently, via black wheelie bins.

It has never been so prolonged nor so widespread.

I politely suggest that there is little point in asking the refuse collectors.

They’ll just do as they’re told and equipped.

It’s no longer worth ringing the department.

They used to trot out the “one vehicle off the road” excuse, sorry explanation.

Of late I have contacted our councillors.

As you may imagine Green councillors are unimpressed and have asked questions in the chamber.

From memory there is some link to the new Allerton Waste Recovery Park near Knaresborough. But answers and timescales are very vague.

I also wrote to our MP, Rachael Maskell. Whatever your political colour, she is a very diligent constituency MP.

I have her reply dated March 15. She has written to Neil Ferris, director of economy and place (yes I know).

I do love the fact that she used my word “orifice” re lorry space.

Her last sentence to him reads: “Can you kindly let me know why people... sort their recycling if it is all then thrown into the lorry together.”

She, I and much of York await his reply.
