Sumptuous, naturally-lit giclee prints of steam engine components that are much more than mere pornography for trainspotters. David Smith - an internationally renowned commercials director who trained as a photographer celebrates the hundreds of anonymous 19th C. engineers who injected classical forms into functional machines. Architectural columns and decorative relief work are echoed in the design of functional wheels, valves and butterfly adjusters - even though they were only ever displayed in engine cabs or the bowels of municipal buildings. Why? The answer goes right to the heart of aesthetics.
