ONE degree just wasn’t enough for Sarah Williams who now has two - more than 40 years apart from the University of York.

Ms Williams graduated in 1973 with a degree in language and philosophy and after a successful career as a social worker, she enrolled back at the university on an online creative writing course.

She will now graduate again on January 20 after completing the two-year PG diploma in creative writing.

She said: “York always stayed with me as a beautiful city and campus, and a place where I enjoyed learning and made good friends.

“When I retired, I rediscovered the long hidden pleasure of playing with words and writing creatively, and it seemed natural to return to York via online study.

“The skilful teaching, unwavering support of the university, and the camaraderie of other students was everything I hoped for.”

The creative writing course Ms Williams took was led by award-winning associate lecturer Lizzi Linklater.
