A PERFUMERY where staff can spend up to 20 minutes ensuring customers get the right fragrance is another business to be nominated for the Shop Of The Year award.

Burgins, situated near the Mansion House in Coney Street and run by June Yeo, is well known to passersby because of the fragrances wafting out into the street.

Theresa Rayner, of Acomb, who has worked there for almost two years and has nominated the shop, said: “I know we give excellent service. We are not a big shop, only seven staff.

“But I know we make our customers feel very welcome and, of course, very special.”

She said that, from October until Christmas Eve, the workload was “manic”.

She said: “We gift wrap everything, especially for the guys on Christmas Eve – always last minute.

“We can spend up to 20 minutes or more with one customer, so they get the right perfume to suit them.”

She said foreign students loved the shop, buying lots of perfumes to take back home, and it ran a postal service “from Land’s End to Scotland for customers who cannot get their fragrance back home”.
