A MAJOR relocation move is set to bring a real “buzz” to York’s economy and safeguard jobs.

A top serviced office provider is next week moving out of its headquarters in Monks Cross, Huntington –and heading to larger premises at nearby Clifton Moor.

The move by Forsyth Business Centres, along with parent company, Scarborough Group International, underlines its commitment to York. It also safeguards 20 jobs in the area and creates room for many more, as the firm carries out its expansion plans over the next three years to increase the number of its serviced offices in the UK from 23 to 40.

David Harrop, finance director, said: “As a large international organisation, we had considered other locations, but decided to stay in York due to its central location and accessibility for staff who are based across the Yorkshire region.

“Additionally, York’s superb rail network provides easy access to our numerous group offices and business centres both north and south of the border.

“As a long-established Yorkshire group, we fully support The Press’s York Means Business campaign and see our move to Clifton Moor as spearheading much-needed rejuvenation by encouraging other local firms to the area.”

The new HQ for Forsyth and Scarborough Group International will be within the company’s latest project, Forsyth@Clifton Moor, a new 14,000 sq ft serviced office complex, providing much-needed support for small and medium-sized ventures in the area.

Mr Harrop said the offices were on offer on a flexible-contract basis for firms not in a position to take on long-term commitments.

“We believe our presence will bring a real buzz to the area and persuade other firms to move here,” he said.

Already the building has had its first retail occupier, hairdressing business The Salon, and three local branches of a charity have signed up to use its meeting and conferencing facilities.

Denise Stuart, chief executive of york-england.com, the inward investment board for York and North Yorkshire, said: “Forsyth’s commitment to York and particularly Clifton Moor shows that the area really does mean business.

“The fact that the group has had such a successful year in the most difficult economic circumstances, says so much about the team’s hard work, the resilience of the city’s people and the overall quality of York and Clifton Moor as places to do business.”
