Haxby Group Practice and Pharmacy are looking for more apprentices to take their combined numbers up to ten.

Richard Harrison originally struggled to get any apprentices because there were no providers in York of training in dispensing.

He had to go undercover as a potential recruit to finally find a course run by Bradford College. Now his apprentices have been so valuable, he’s looking for more.

Richard, who set up Haxby Pharmacy in September 2010, said Haxby Pharmacy recruited three apprentices, and seeing how it had worked, the GP surgery took on four.

“Our business is growing really well and I’m looking to open a second pharmacy in Huntington .” He said he wanted to train up two to three more apprentices to have the staff ready to open the new branch.

“There aren’t that many qualified dispensing assistants around so I want to train some more people up and by taking them on new I can train them in the way I want them to work,” he said.
