NEW ways could be tried to bring empty homes and vacant space above businesses in York back into use.
City of York Council’s cabinet member for health, housing and adult social services, Coun Tracey Simpson-Laing, will next week decide whether to approve an action plan which would include targeting owners whose unused properties blight communities.
Owners of empty properties would also be encouraged to bring them back into residential use.
Coun Simpson-Laing said: “For too long, residents have had to live with rundown empty houses in their streets, even though powers available to address this were not used.”
