SOLARWALL of York, the specialist in environmentally friendly technology, has clinched two awards for excellence at the 2011 Yorkshire and Humber Microgeneration Dinner.

The awards in Harrogate, presided over by BBC Look North’s Paul Hudson, honoured the £6 million turnover Solarwall in the Best Business Initiative and Best Commercial Installation categories.

Both were given in recognition of Solarwall’s Energy Centre, which opened at its site on the Green Lane Trading Estate, Clifton Moor, in May.

The centre is designed to educate and promote the economic and environmental benefits of renewable technologies to homeowners, businesses and local authorities.

The Energy Centre also displays The Carbon Counter, an online tool that monitors the amount of carbon that Solarwall has saved the UK since the company was founded in 1977.

The latest weekly figure shows Solarwall saved more than 1.5 million tones – the equivalent of the entire carbon output of Russia in 2007.

The Yorkshire and Humber Microgeneration Awards aim to showcase the very best in small-scale renewable energy projects from across the region, highlighting best practice and demonstrating how this can be replicated.

Sue Lamb, managing director and founder of Solarwall, said: “It is a great achievement that the Energy Centre should be recognised in both these categories by the Microgeneration Partnership.

“The centre demonstrates, in a simple and uncomplicated way, just what is possible with modern renewable technologies.

“Not only can people save energy and reduce their carbon footprint, but they’ll also be saving themselves a lot of money.”
