A new organic supermarket is opening in York in October.
Called Out Of This World - or OOTW for short - it will occupy the former Safeway supermarket in George Hudson Street which has been derelict for more than a decade.
It is part of the new Oakgate development there - a £2 million refurbishment of the car park and shops below by York-based Moor Lane Construction.
OOTW is the fourth organic store to open, the others being in Leeds, Nottingham and Newcastle upon Tyne and it will source as much of its produce as possible locally.
Already a new manager has been appointed, Marianne Dickson, who is deputy manager of the Leeds store. Six new jobs will be created.
The chain is owned by a co-operative formed in 1995 to challenge what it described as "destructive consumerism".
It campaigns to market local goods and support fair trade from abroad where seasonally it is unable to source locally.
The arrival of the 4,000sq ft supermarket with its 5,000 product lines comes at a time of boom in the organic market, which is said to be growing at 11 per cent per year, faster than the non-organic grocery market
