FARMERS and businesses in York and North and East Yorkshire have a huge role to play in servicing one of Europe’s mightiest green projects on their doorstep.
More than 200 people attending a York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce director lunch at Venturefest learned about the prospects offered by Vivergo Fuels biorefinery plant arising on 25 acres at Salt End, near Hull, at the end of next summer.
Vivergo’s managing director, David Richards, explained how two million tonnes of feed grade wheat would be needed within a 50-mile radius to service the plant which would annually produce 420 million litres of bioethanol. Already up to 800 people are being employed in the construction of the plant.
