Tony and fellow co-founder Tony Thomson sold York Brewery to Lancaster pubs business Mitchell’s Hotels and Inns in 2008.

He remained with the business after the acquisition to run the brewery’s mobile bars service.

But last year, Mitchell’s decided to concentrate on its core business of pubs and breweries, so sold Tony the equipment and in November he set up on his own.

Now Tony has moved into new premises at Marston Moor and has invested in a bar trailer so he can serve bigger events, such as festivals, concerts, sporting events and corporate hospitality.

Tony started to provide the York Brewery’s cask ales at events 12 years ago, when he was approached by events business Warner Exhibitions to provide beer at its Northern Motorhome Show.

He said other mobile operators tend to serve mainstream lagers at events, and his business has always been popular for serving real hand-pulled cask ales.

Tony said: “When we set up our first show table we had two hand-pulls on. Over the years we’ve been doing it we have expanded it and last time we had four bars on site with 55 hand-pulls.”

He, and the loyal casual staff he has worked with for up to eight years at York Brewery, now serve six shows nationwide, including the Southern Motorcaravan Show in Newbury, other shows in Leicester, Cheshire and Lincoln as well as local shows the Huby and Sutton Show and the York Cycle Show.

Tony said he hoped to double the number of events in the next year and partner with local breweries, after setting up a partnership with Castle Rock brewery in Nottingham to sell their beer at events.

“Because we’re doing events all over the UK we can showcase some of our local micro-breweries in other parts of the country,” he said.
