A NEWLY-OPENED store is the latest well-known brand to sign up to a North Yorkshire project which encourages shoppers to make greater use of their local stores and independent retailers.
The Yorkshire Linen Co, in High Street, Northallerton, is now part of the growing community of businesses participating in the ShopLocal initiative, which offers card-carriers incentives and discounts to shop with them ahead of high-street giants and supermarkets.
Ross Leventhal, managing director of Yorkshire Linen Co, said: “The beauty of ShopLocal is we have total control of what discounts we offer card holders, which we can change daily. We can also alert shoppers to what’s on offer via the ShopLocal website, which again helps to promote the Yorkshire Linen Co name to a much wider audience.”
Cath Grimsey, ShopLocal’s North Yorkshire organiser, said: “With this well-known retail outlet coming on board, we are sure it will attract others in the Northallerton area to join us and sign up to the scheme. If local people don’t support local shops then we can say goodbye to our rural communities as we know them.”
The scheme, which began in Bedale, has now extended to Northallerton, Leyburn, Masham, Thirsk, Richmond, Ripon and Pateley Bridge.
