YORK life sciences business OptiBiotix Health plc which is developing compounds to tackle obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes and skin care, has announced the appointment of Luis Gosalbez as director of business development.

He brings a strong scientific background, an understanding of the microbiome and expertise in consumer healthcare, probiotics and the development of novel live biotherapeutic products.

His scientific research interests include publications and presentations on the ‘Use of probiotics and prebiotics in the management of obesity’, ‘Food and Pharma - coming closer together’ and ‘Key regulatory issues for the development of pharmabiotics in Europe’.

l Richard Smeaton has been appointed as regional manager of the Yorkshire division of Bardsley Construction. He has more than 30 years of experience in construction with expertise in sectors including education, social housing, retail, commercial, student accommodation, private rented sector and archive facilities.

He said: “I look forward to continuing to enhance the good name of Bardsley outside of its north-west heartland via the delivery of high-quality construction projects in the private and public sectors to benefit the economy and people of the great county of Yorkshire.”
