A FISH and chip restaurant near York has received a top industry award.

Scotts Fish & Chips, just off the A64 at Bilbrough, has been presented the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) Quality Award scheme.

Run by the trade body that represents the nation’s fish and chip shops, the awards are a way to raise standards within the trade, as well as enhancing the industry's profile.

This award comes three months after its sister venue, Scotts of Helmsley, retained its quality award.

Establishments displaying the NFFF Quality Award are the ones that provide good quality products, high standards of hygiene and a high level of competence.

The process to become awarded involves an inspection carried out by the NFFF, which assesses the shop’s presentation, hygiene, staff training, equipment, frying and sales skills and the quality of the cooked product.

Tony Webster, owner of Scotts Fish & Chips, said: “Being awarded the NFFF Quality Award is fantastic news.

“I particularly want to pay tribute to the wonderful team we have there which is led by ‘Young Frier’ Roxy Vasai and Dave Bradshaw, who, in turn, take their lead from Scotts’ chef manager, Shane White.

“Being able to display this award is a reassurance to our customers. It means that as soon as they step through our door - either into the restaurant or the takeaway - they are entering a quality establishment that serves food of the highest quality.”
