TWO York family businesses have teamed up to offer extended spa facilities at one of the city’s hotels.

5 Senses Thai spa has relocated from premises in Clifton Green to take up residency within the Mount Royale Hotel.

The hotel, which has been operated by the Oxtoby family since 1967, has seen part of its ground floor and basement rooms remodelled to accommodate the spa business, which was launched in 2007.

Hotel director Stuart Oxtoby said: “The hotel business is a very hard business to be in, so we’re delighted to welcome 5 Senses and welcome their services to our overall offering.

“We took the hotel’s restaurant Oxo’s back two years ago, after previously subcontracting it, and that has gone from strength to strength.

“Now we are welcoming 5 Senses on board. Their business model is very similar to ours in that they will go that extra mile for the customer, so we’re really pleased to have them on board.”

Michelle Chung, manager at 5 Senses, which employs a team of nine, added: “We were looking for extra facilities, as at Clifton Green we were a day spa.

“Here Stuart offers food, sauna, steam and pool facilities, as well as overnight accommodation.

“It’s worked really well as we didn’t want to go somewhere that was too commercial, and Stuart didn’t want a corporate spa coming in.

“It’s really nice to be part of the team at the Mount Royale. Everyone is very friendly and happy to help each other out.”
