THE Chapter of York has appointed a new firm to manage the entire property investment portfolio of York Minster.

Leeds-based chartered surveyor and property consultancy Sanderson Weatherall, which has an office in Easingwold's Long Street, will manage all of York Minster’s commercial and residential property holdings.

The firm is also contracted to provide a comprehensive range of property management services after winning the appointment, which is for a term of five years following its commencement in January this year.

The Minster’s portfolio includes around 35 residential and commercial properties surrounding the York landmark, in locations including High Petergate, Low Petergate, Minster Gates, Precentor’s Court and Minster Yard.

The commercial estate includes prime city centre shops, cafes, restaurants, galleries and a guest house.

The Very Reverend Dean of York, Vivienne Faull, said: "We were really keen to develop a new approach to our property portfolio.

"Sanderson Weatherall brings enthusiasm and initiative as well as a wealth of property experience in Yorkshire, which makes it the ideal partner agency for us. Re-letting of two of the units has already commenced."

The company has been tasked with financial management of the portfolio as well as property management, including handling building maintenance and surveying. Sanderson Weatherall will also deal with agency lettings, acquisition and disposal, negotiating business rates, reviews and renewals and acting as general consultants.

Sanderson Weatherall’s partner in corporate real estate, Andrew Ellis, said: "This is a hugely prestigious property account and is testament to our ability to provide clients with a service that is not only highly professional but inventive.

"Our broad experience in both commercial and residential property means that we have the expertise necessary to ensure that the York Chapter’s property portfolio is well-managed and hardworking."

Sanderson Weatherall’s Leeds office employs 95 specialist chartered surveyors and support staff and operates across the Yorkshire region. Established in 1833, the firm also has offices in Newcastle, Manchester, London, Bristol, Exeter, Darlington and Teesside, alongside its Leeds and Easingwold offices.

SandersonWeatherall provides property, machinery and business asset services across a range of sectors, including leisure, industrial, retail, residential, roadside, healthcare, offices, public and third sector.
