SELBY coach manufacturer Optare has won a £7.3 million order from national bus operating firm Stagecoach.

Stagecoach UK Bus placed the multi million pound order for the North Yorkshire firm's new range of Euro 6 Optare Solos, of varying specifications, to add to their fleet in 2015.

The order is in addition to five fully electric vehicles Optare delivered to Stagecoach this month.

Commenting on the recent order, Sam Greer, Stagecoach UK Bus regional director from Stagecoach UK Bus, said: "Optare Solos have been a tried and tested part of our fleet going back a number of years and our customer feedback suggests that our passengers like these vehicles too."

Enrico Vassallo, chief executive at Optare, said: "We are delighted to be supplying more Optare vehicles to Stagecoach.

"In line with the Stagecoach greener, smarter, travel strategy these Solos will be the first Euro 6 vehicles Optare have supplied to Stagecoach."

Optare's Sherburn in Elmet manufacturing facility employs a team of more than 400 people.

Through its work to support greener travel, Optare is the largest supplier of fully electric buses in the UK, with more than 70 currently in service across the UK.
