NATIONAL travel operator Jet2holidays has reported its biggest ever rise in passenger numbers at York’s nearest airport.

The firm announced its record rise in holidaymakers travelling from Leeds Bradford airport over this year’s February half term.

Nearly 3,000 people from the region jetted off to sunnier destinations or to enjoy a cultural city break with the package holiday specialist – a 74 per cent increase on last year’s figures.

The most popular destination during the half-term break was Tenerife, followed by neighbouring Canary Islands Lanzarote in second and Gran Canaria. which came fifth in the Top Five destination list.

Alicante came third, while Prague was fourth.

Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “This is our busiest February half-term getaway from Leeds Bradford yet and it is clear that the majority of our customers were in search of one thing – sunshine.

“It is fantastic to see even more people taking advantage of our package breaks.”
