A NORTH Yorkshire brewery is expanding its supermarket presence after wining a contract to supply Morrisons.

Wold Top Brewery, which already has contracts with Sainsbury's and Waitrose, will now see its bottled beers stocked in Morrisons stores throughout Yorkshire.

The business, based near Hunmanby, which is shortlisted for the Small Business of the Year title at the Press Business Awards, secured a deal for listings in 112 stores for its red beer, Headland Red and 21 stores for its Scarborough Fair IPA.

Of the latest listing, brewery owner Tom Mellor said: "We are delighted that two of our best-selling beers are now available in Morrisons and are selling very well."

A spokesperson for Wold Top Brewery said after two months on the shelves in Morrisons sales figures have already proved better than expected.

Headland Red, which 4.3 per cent ABV, is made from Wolds grown barley, dark crystal malt, Progress hops and the brewery's own chalk filtered water, while Scarborough Fair IPA, 6 per cent ABV, is brewed with a pale Wold grown malt base, a triple hop blend and maize for head retention.

The Wold Top Brewery, which is based on the Mellor's family farm, is part of the Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) scheme for environmental initiatives and is also working closely with the RSPB to promote its birdlife.

Its range of award winning ales is also available through the website, independent, family owned retailers, farm shops, delis, hotels, pubs and off licences throughout Yorkshire and Lincolnshire
