THE tourism offering in a North Yorkshire forest has grown with the launch of holiday cabins.

Forest Holidays, which offers cabin stays set on Forestry Commission land on nine sites throughout Britain, has launched a new cabin site at Cropton Forest near Pickering.

The new accommodation was unveiled at the ceremony, pictured above, which was attended by representatives of The North York Moors National Park Authority, Welcome to Yorkshire, Visit Ryedale and The Forestry Commission.

As part of the opening ceremony, a commemorative plaque was unveiled in the brand new Forest Retreat by David Hugill, chairman of The Planning Committee of The North York Moors Park Authority and Gary Fletcher, Chief Executive of Forest Holidays.

In addition, a cherry sapling was planted by Mr Hugill to mark the occasion.

Mr Hugill said: "I am delighted that Forest Holidays are attracting thousands of visitors from around Britain into the park. This development is an absolutely ideal location to enjoy the beauty of our area. Forest Holidays’ two Yorkshire sites help the local economy by injecting up to four million pounds per year in spending on attractions, shops, pubs and restaurants."
