A SMALL fish and chip shop in York has been named one of the country's best.

The Blue Fin, in Tadcaster Road, has been named among the top 50 fish and chip shops in the UK by Fry Magazine.

The independent competition sees restaurants visited by a mystery diner who looks at more than 40 points of the business, including the quality of the food, presentation and service by the staff, and hygiene, with each shop in the unranked top 50 needing a rating higher than 95 per cent to qualify.

Owner Ravinder Singh said: "We are the only fish and chip shop in York who managed to achieve this. This is a great achievement.

"We have to say that we wouldn't have been able to achieve this award without the help of all our dedicated staff who make every effort that our customers get the best quality of food and service."
