THE man behind Italian chain Prezzo has talked about how John Lewis and Marks & Spencer swayed the decision to open his 200th restaurant in York.

Prezzo opened its 200th restaurant nationally and its second in York last week when it launched its new eatery at the Vangarde Shopping Park following a £700,000 investment, creating fifty new jobs.

In attendance at the new restaurant's launch night was Prezzo chief executive Jonathan Kaye.

He said: "I came up with the idea for Prezzo in 2002. I come from a restaurant family, that had launched successful chains in the past.

"It would be wrong to say I didn't have dreams of it being a successful chain, but they were just dreams and I never expected to be here opening our 200th restaurant.

"York is an amazing city and we have enjoyed success with our city centre restaurant.

"We look a new sites case by case, and we take new opportunities as they come. When something landed on my desk with for a new development, with a John Lewis and Marks & Spencer, and three or four good restaurants in York, which I know is a good area, I was very interested."
