A NEW has revealed company formation numbers in Harrogate fell last year while company closures were on the rise.

After a record year in 2012, last year saw company formation numbers drop in Harrogate according to Duport.co.uk

Over the course of 2013, there were 765 new companies registered- a five per cent drop on the previous year’s figure.

In addition, company closures rose by seven per cent during the 12 months, leading to an overall drop in net company growth.

The report also shows that, apart from last year, company formation numbers in Harrogate have been rising every year since the financial crash of 2008.

Managing director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis said: “Although there has been a drop in company formations and a rise in closures, this is not disastrous news for the economy of Harrogate.

"After a record year in 2012, formations were always likely to drop off and a rise in closures is to be expected after an unprecedented number of formations.”
