INDEPENDENT commercial property consultancy GVA has been appointed to sell York’s old fire station.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority enlisted the Yorkshire office of GVA to market for sale the freehold interest in the historic property in Clifford Street.
A team from GVA’s agency and development division has been instructed on the sale and expects the property to fetch a seven-figure sum, with particular interest to be attracted from developers.
The station is being vacated as firefighters move next week in to a new £2.3million fire station in Kent Street.
Dai Powell, development associate at GVA in Leeds, said: “The former fire station property could be suitable for residential or commercial development, subject to planning permission.”
The property, which sits on a 0.35 acre site, consists of two main buildings and a smaller detached building.
Matthew Tootell, director at GVA, said that tenders were being invited and a number of open days were planned to be held.
