LEADING “eco-technology” is to be installed on Grand Central’s trains between York and London, which will help drivers deliver smoother, more efficient journeys for passengers while reducing fuel consumption by up to 15 per cent.
Arriva, parent company of the York-based rail operator, is to invest £4.5 million in the new technology for its UK rail operations.
More than 580 train cabs, including those on CrossCountry and Grand Central trains, will be fitted with the Energymiser® Driver Advisory System (DAS), an on board computer screen which provides drivers with real-time route information on train running times.
This allows them to monitor train performance and reliability and offers guidance on train speeds to help drivers keep services to timetable while ensuring greater fuel efficiency and progressive driving techniques.
