A YORK shop and café is offering a free cupcake to people celebrating their birthday this weekend to mark its first anniversary.

People who visit the café at The Flax and Twine and can prove its their birthday this weekend will receive a cupcake to celebrate alongside the store’s owners.

Based in the Shambles, the shop sells homeware, including vintage items and furniture, and the cafe prides itself on serving lots of locally sourced goods.

Maureen Scott, co-owner of The Flax and Twine, along with Katie Pask, said: “Our first year has gone really well. People have been really supportive and we have had lots of nice comments. It’s gone really quickly and we are looking forward to many more.”
