A COMPANY which sells beds “grown” in North Yorkshire is expecting to grow by up to four times its size by 2016.
Harrison Spinks, which makes mattresses from sheepswool, is now planning to use its pocket-spring technology in other markets, such as car seats.
It is also targeting overseas markets, attending the IMM furniture fair in Cologne and the Meubelbeurs Furniture Fair in Brussels.
The family business, which has been trading since 1984, was prompted to begin making its own mattress fillings by department store chain John Lewis, which wanted it to use natural products.
It harvests timber for the bed frames from Sand Hutton Woods and keeps its Texel, Leicester and Swaledale sheep which grow thicker and stronger wool at a 300-acre farm in Bolton Percy near York.
Harrison Spinks, which manufactures the beds in Leeds, expects to grow to an £80 million to £100 million business by 2016.
