RICHARD Goodey and Sarah Allard met while living and playing in the Canadian Rockies having travelled throughout South and South-East Asia.

They wanted to share their experiences with others and saw a gap in the market for well-researched adventure holidays.

They set off on the back of a Royal Enfield motorcycle for seven months in India and Nepal, and further on to Thailand and Laos, researching potential itineraries and ensuring that the experiences met their standards.

“We also wished to base our business sustainably, leaving as little impact on the places we love and explore,” said Sarah.

In 2010 they launched Lost Earth Adventures, which specialises in adventure tours in Thailand, Laos and Nepal, doing climbing, mountain biking, white water rafting, caving and kayaking.

They also like to play in their own backyard in York, and have begun to offer privately guided activities in North Yorkshire, rock climbing and gorge scrambling.

The business, which is going for Small Business Of The Year and Tourism and Hospitality Business Of The Year at The Press Business Awards 2012, has created a charity, The Share The Load Foundation, to give back to communities, including helping to support a school in Nepal.
