A COMPANY which brings high-quality theatre with known actors to small community halls is hoping to be recognised in The Press Business Awards 2012.

Badapple Theatre Company, a professional arts company dating back to 1998, launched its new Theatre On Your Doorstep scheme in 2006.

Kate Bramley, artistic director, said: “Our self-contained, no nonsense ambition to take a full theatre experience to rural venues has earned us a substantial following with local community halls, committees and audiences.”

Its 2010 to 2011 production of Back To The Land Girls was 97 per cent sold out and the company generates at least 80 per cent of its income is from sales and fees, with only occasional arts support for larger projects.

“Our creative team of writers, directors and musicians are well known for their work and major theatres or BBC Radio and TV and dedicate themselves to these ultra-small-scale projects because we all believe we can make a difference. Our inclusive events mix generations, those from different social backgrounds, and provide vital access for older audiences who have difficulty with mobility or are apprehensive about travelling at night,” said Kate.

The company has entered Small Business Of The Year and Best Business and Community Link.
