TRUSTMARQUE Solutions, the expanding IT reseller, which employs 153 people in York, is going for Large Business Of The Year and Best Business And Community Link in The Press Business Awards 2011.

Trustmarque, based at Alpha Court, Monks Cross, supports St Leonard’s Hospice and York Young Carers (YYC), as well as one rotational charity, on a rolling basis through fundraising and volunteering.

So far this year it has raised £4,626 by organising or supporting events.

Scott Haddow, chief executive, said: “By creating an ongoing rolling programme, Trustmarque hopes that it can forge valuable links with local charities and make a real difference to the community.

“Trustmarque places great importance on CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiatives and encourages all its employees to support these causes and to have a sense of the importance of social responsibility within the business.”

The business will hold a family barbecue on July 24 at the Bootham Hotel to raise more funds for the charities. It has also raised ££831 for Martin House Hospice, when nine members of staff completed the gruelling national Three Peaks – Scafell, Ben Nevis and Snowdon – within 24 hours, and donated an iPad and money to buy software to enable Angie Bird, who was born with cerebral palsy, to communicate more easily with family and friends.

It also raised £2,000 in a balloon release for four-year-old Blaise Etheridge-Clarke to go to Disneyland.

Its employees get involved in practical conservation tasks at the St Nicholas Fields Environment Centre and dedicate time volunteering at YCC.

The business itself posted a 28 per cent increase in gross profit after repositioning itself to provide a relationship-led service to help organisations cut the cost of their technology spending.

It has won 349 new customers in the past 12 months and increased its staff numbers from 95 to 153 since 2009.

It is expanding through acquisition, and bought cloud infrastructure company Nimbus Technology Systems this year to expand its offering.

The firm has also developed an industry-recognised training programme for its employees called the Sales Academy.
