DIGITAL companies are always working hard to keep up with emerging technologies, and York agency See Green is no exception.

The Clifton Moor-based business, which welcomes more than three million visits a year to its websites , knows all too well how important it is to diversify where necessary to keep the cutting edge, and is showcasing its achievements in the sector through entering the Technology Business of the Year category.

This year saw See Green evolve its business model, launching a new product to market which changes the way the company works with clients. SeeCMS, the company’s own open-source Content Management System, which is used to update websites, was launched to the world at Venturefest, held back in March.

Anne Taylor, director at See Green, which is also entering the Family Business of the Year award, said: "2015 has been an exciting year for us and we’re pleased that SeeCMS is now helping others to create websites in the smoothest and simplest way possible.

"We’re proud to be York based, and to support the city’s economic growth, and SeeCMS will be the launchpad for us to realise many of the goals we set out whilst we’ve been taking part in the Growth Accelerator programme.

"After See Green was launched, we spent five or six years building custom websites using our own CMS. That’s because we’re very proud of the previous years of development that had gone into it. We didn’t want to simply give it away to people.

"We’re up against the likes of Wordpress or Wix though - low cost, cheap and cheerful tools that people use to make websites. They might be well known systems, but so many people come to us when they’ve struggled to keep a site up to date because it’s such a difficult system to use, or the growth of a site has been restricted because of technical issues or plain inflexibility.

"Our motto is ‘making the internet better one website at a time’ and we wanted to really live up to that, allowing others to use what we know is an intuitive and innovative system.

“We want to exploit opportunities for not only our clients, but for businesses and organisations on a much wider scale.

“We spent time looking at our sector, as well as our large client base, to really assess how we could ultimately generate more revenue and profit with this new vision.”

Since the launch of SeeCMS, See Green has seen a 300 per cent increase in order book value - meaning the company is busily recruiting staff to help with the workload, adding to its team of six.
