A SOFTWARE firm which saw its success in international trade result in a hat trick of Queen's Enterprise Awards is hoping for further accolades in The Press Business Awards.

Based at York Science Park, MooD International is used by large organisations across the world to improve their grasp of what drives business performance.

The firm, which employs a team of 93, has devised a software system which visualises a company's “Business Landscape” of moving parts and connections, to give decision-makers a clear understanding about options and consequences.

Sarah Morris, of MooD International, said: "A MooD system blends human judgement with hard data from many sources, to form a visual model that brings to life the tough decisions faced by those responsible for performance.

"Our focus is on giving companies a strong grasp of what actually drives business outcomes: helping to put them in control of the bewildering mass of data, business intelligence and analytics available."

In recent years, MooD solutions have been instrumental in delivering efficiency gains and savings of hundreds of millions of pounds to the British Government and to the economies of major enterprises.

With exports accounting for 30 per cent of revenues, and the company's software now being used in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, MooD International has entered the Dare to Export and Best People Development Awards.

Its performance overseas has already won the business a Queen’s Award for International Trade earlier this year, and a recent top-10 listing in the Sunday Times / BT Business SME Export Track 100, with an accolade of being number one in Yorkshire.

While the software has been cited as critical to the company's success, so has its staff.

MooD employs a team of 93 in around ten different locations across the UK, with 30 new members of staff this year alone.

Ms Morris said: "Inducting and training a large number of new people in disparate bases requires effective organisation and real and relevant content. We believe that we’ve developed a great model to future proof our success."

Each new joiner has around 60 working days of training on joining the business, some through internal MooD software training programmes (about a third of this time). Other days are carved out for them to spend time with all the teams in the business. The balance, and bulk, of the 60 days is then spent shadowing other people who have been employed within the business for a longer period.
