Winner: Filmore & Union
Finalists: Art from the Start; Red Cow Music
A DELI and restaurant business specialising in healthy eating has been named Retail Business of the Year.
Filmore and Union was shortlisted as a finalist in this category by the judges because they said it is an "ambitious and creative company, with a passion for healthy eating, excellent customer service and the coaching and development of their staff".
Judges said they chose the business as the retailer of the year due the enthusiasm with which the business is run, praising the owners for their great passion and knowledge and for their focus on putting the customers first.
The business was created by Adele Carnell, who previously owned health and wellness clinics, and nephew Will Pugh, a head chef, in 2012.
They opened their first restaurant in Low Petergate in February 2012, and now have a Health To Go shop at York Railway Station, a small delicatessen in Harrogate and restaurant in Wetherby.
Everything except bagels and certain drinks are made from scratch at a stand-alone kitchen facility near Wetherby, which delivers the food fresh to its outlets every day.
The business focuses on items for customers with food intolerances and has developed a substantial gluten-free range with plans to open a gluten-free kitchen.
Adele said: “We are so delighted that we have really helped customers who have previously struggled to find good-quality food that caters for their food intolerances or who care about eating honest healthier food and about where it is made.”
