A local firm on a mission to improve the nation’s environment is vying for the Think Green Business Of The Year and Large Business categories in The Press Business Awards 2013.

Roof Revive, based at Sheriff Hutton Industrial Park, manufactures and installs state-of-the-art roof insulation systems to dramatically improve the usability of conservatories, preventing them from being too cold in winter and too hot in summer.

By improving thermal performance by 200per cent, it cuts greenhouse gas emissions – and energy bills. It is the only patented product of this kind in its market sector.

Roof Revive is owned by James Hogg who is the inventor of the product and his system is one of the few products to be awarded a lower five per cent VAT rate because of its environmental benefits.

As a measure of the success of the product, the company’s turnover has increased from £73,000 in year one to £3 million in year three and its customer base has risen from 500 to 3,000.

Nicola Ball, marketing director, said: “We have a full customer engagement plan. Before every installation we speak to customers to ensure they are fully briefed on who is coming to their home to carry out the survey, we also offer a full free roof inspection to ensure the roof is suitable and carry out repair work prior to installing the system, to ensure the longevity of the work. And we offer a five-year guarantee on our system.”

James Hogg, as creator of the only product, is extremely hands-on throughout the whole business and takes a lead role in all areas. He oversees marketing, sales, research and development, innovation and day-to-day running of the business, but recognises that the success of the business also hinges on the knowledge and skills of staff.

Nicola said: “We only have one product, the Roof Revive System, so everything we have done to date is down to this amazing, but simple idea."
