CCF Accountancy was founded with the one clear aim of ensuring clients' needs were always the first priority. Hence CCF: Clients Come First.

The Harrogate-based firm of chartered accountants and tax advisers is hoping its name will stand it in good stead in the Small Business of the Year category in The Press Business Awards 2013.

Owner Teresa Bowe said: "Here at CCF we understand that for many people, dealing with tax and accounts can be very daunting and stressful, so we explain things in plain English and offer advice in a friendly, approachable way to encourage clients to be as open and relaxed as possible.

"Whether it's an individual, small businesses or much larger organisation, we offer the same great service to all of them.

‘‘Although dealing with annual accounts and tax is a large part of our work, CCF is committed to being available throughout the year to help clients to make the most of their businesses."

Established three years ago, CCF now has 200 businesses and 300 personal tax clients on its books.

In the first months of trading, most of the clients were start-up businesses just like CCF and Teresa was able to use her own experience to help them.

They have grown along with CCF, so advice remains relevant to them as they have developed.

Likewise, professional and personal staff development expands the pool of skills on which they can draw, meaning clients get the best advice and guidance.

CCF is also a strong part of the community it serves.

Teresa runs free quarterly breakfast seminars which are open to both clients and non-clients. Topics are based mostly on the needs of small enterprises, but also include some basics.

As Teresa says: "Many people running small businesses can be embarrassed to admit that they do not know everything about the financial side. ‘‘My seminars mean they can listen and learn without feeling self-conscious."
