YORK City will be anticipating a much more green for go playing surface when they next return to Bootham Crescent.
In last weekend’s home share-all between City and Wycombe, both sides had to contend with a heavily-sanded playing surface.
But Minstermen boss Nigel Worthington expects the pitch problem to have been resolved prior to the team’s next home match – against Luton on Tuesday, September 16.
“We needed to do some work on the pitch ten days ago,” revealed the City manager, pictured above.
“Drains were put in towards the end of pre-season to improve drainage and that created some hollows that needed to be filled with sand to make the surface level.”
But with Luton - newly promoted from the Conference Premier - the next visitors, Worthington added: “By the time of our next home game, I am confident that most of the sand will have dissipated and we will have a nice, green, lush pitch to make things better, which is needed, so there’s no issue with that.”
