THE driver of a school bus that got stuck in floodwater has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving.
Graham Stanley Jones, 43, of Linton Woods Lane, Linton-on-Ouse, was driving 26 children to Easingwold School on the morning of January 5 when the vehicle became partially submerged in floodwater in Tollerton Lane.
Emergency services had to be called to the scene to rescue the children on board the bus, and North Yorkshire County Council said signs had been in place throughout the area to advise of road closures due to flooding.
It was not disputed in court that Jones drove past a 'road closed' sign, but barrister Julian Tanikal said his client believed the sign referred to another nearby road.
Jones appeared at York Crown Court this morning where he denied one charge of dangerous driving.
He is next due to appear before the court in December for a one-day trial.
