IT was a musical mystery tour for passengers when the National Railway Museum held its first ever music festival in York this weekend.

At least 4,000 people attended the nine-hour performance as 22 acts took their turn in the Director's Saloon and in Station Hall.

They even had the chance for music on the move as some of the acts performed in a carriage that took short trips behind a locomotive in South Yard.

Kate Maughan-Brown, Press Officer at the National Railway Museum said: "The Mor Music Festival was our first ever music festival and we're incredibly pleased with the success of it.

"Yesterday we welcomed just over 4000 visitors through our doors - most of them had come to spend some time watching the acts. It was a great afternoon of music both in the Station Hall and in the moving carriage. We've had very positive feedback from both visitors and the acts themselves and we would look to do something similar in the future."

Among the performers was Beth McCarthy ofYork, of BBC1's The Voice television talent show, Boss Caine, David Ward MacLean, Blueprints and Jonny & the Dunebugs.

All the bands were local or had local connections.
